The International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) Working Group «Performance and Disability» is looking for a new Co-convener.
The person appointed will be expected to guide the working group together with the second co-convener for the period from 2018-2022, according to the Working Group mission statement.
The Performance & Disability WG, which was founded in 2012, aims to provide a venue for the sharing and dissemination of scholarly and artistic work, and best practices from around the world, which explore how diverse physical, sensorial, developmental and psychological abilities manifest themselves in all areas of performance. The aims of our Work Group are to create international dialogues, partnerships and networks at the crossovers of disability and performance, and to provide a venue for the sharing and dissemination of scholarly and artistic work, and best practices from around the world – research and practices that explore how diverse physical, sensorial, developmental and psychological abilities manifest themselves in all areas of performance.

The core business is to organize the Working Group’s annual meetings; initiate, facilitate, and chair its sessions (panels and artist meetings), work in collaboration with the local conference organizers and attend to other group related matters. The person should represent the working group’s interests (especially in terms of accessibility within the IFTR and beyond) and have a critical disability studies approach. In collaboration with the co-convener, the person appointed will be responsible for the strategical development of the working group (publications and events, increasing the geographical network, fundraising options for people from underrepresented countries etc.). Other responsibilities include communication (mailinglist, newsletter, social media, IFTR website) in collaboration with other members of the group.
Candidates should be current IFTR members (according to the IFTR guidelines) and active members of the «Performance and Disability» WG. They should have participated in Working Group meetings over the past six years and contributed to the WG’s activities. The person appointed is expected to attend the annual IFTR conferences in 2018-2022 at least every second year (in consultation with the co-convener), and be ready to take the lead over the next IFTR conference in summer 2019. People who self-identify as disabled and candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
The position is unsalaried, and IFTR does not cover any travel expenses to attend the IFTR conferences.
The co-convener will be elected at the IFTR annual conference in Belgrade (10-14 July, 2018) by the members of the group. The election period is four years (extendable for another 4 years).
Candidates should send a CV (no more than 2 pages), and a one-page statement, detailing their planned contributions, visions and future plans for the group.
