Wesleyan University’s Theater Department invites applicants for a tenure-track or tenured position at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor of Theater History and Criticism or Performance Studies. The successful candidate must have a Ph. D. in Theater, Theater History and Criticism, Performance Studies or a related field at the time of application.
Areas of expertise open, but teaching and research will highlight the intersection between performance and contemporary social and political issues. Applications particularly welcome from colleagues experienced in applied theater/performance (theater/performance in education or as tools of civic engagement). Scholar/artists with an interest in identity, inter-culturalism, and social justice within a global perspective are strongly encouraged to apply.
Candidates must have developed syllabi, published scholarship, and/or a record of theatrical production that demonstrates pedagogical, scholarly, and creative excellence. Wesleyan University’s Theater Department explores theater from an intersectional perspective in which rigorous scholarly and applied research are emphasized by continuous and collaborative exchange. We seek candidates whose sense of community, creative energy, and innovative vision will enable effective leadership within a highly committed and vibrant community of students, teachers, scholars, and artists in Wesleyan’s Theater Department, the Center for the Arts, and across the university.
Responsibilities include teaching four courses annually (two per semester), supervising tutorials mentoring students’ creative work, advising majors and pre-majors, participating in Wesleyan’s active theater community as well as in faculty governance of the department and the university.
