We invite existing and new TAD members to submit abstracts for the 2017 IFTR conference in Sao Paolo.
IFTR – Translation, Adaptation and Dramaturgy Working Group
CFP 2017 Unstable Geographies: Multiple Theatricalities
This working group is concerned not only with singular instances and practices of translation, adaptation and dramaturgy, but, importantly, aims to critically explore the relationship between all three in terms of theatrical and dramatic practice. In keeping with the conference theme of “Unstable Geographies: Multiple Theatricalities”, the TAD working group would like to invite existing and new Working Group members to submit any papers which critically investigate the changing relationships between translation, adaptation dramaturgy, and their geographic and theatrical contexts. What happens to practices of translation, adaptation and dramaturgy in specific geographic contexts? How is the relationship between geographies and multiple theatricalities played out and made visible in terms of translation, adaptation and dramaturgy? Have there been attempts to transcend geographies through specific translational, adaptational and dramaturgical practices? Or do these necessarily shape all elements of these three related processes, products in their reception?
We invite existing and new members to submit abstracts for papers on any aspect of the relationship(s) between translation, adaptation and/or dramaturgy as it relates to the conference theme of geographies and theatricalities. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
· Mapping of translation, adaptation and dramaturgy activities in terms of political hegemonies
· Mapping of translation, adaptation and dramaturgy activities in terms of ideological hegemonies
· Mapping of translation, adaptation and dramaturgy activities in terms of cultural hegemonies
· Translation, adaptation and dramaturgy of / in space and place
· Translation, adaptation and dramaturgy and notions of diaspora
· Defining translation, adaptation and dramaturgy as a function of place
Moreover, we will readily consider contributions that touch on any aspect of the Group's remit. We also warmly welcome new members who wish to take part in the group's discussions, but who do not want to submit a paper.
At Sao Paolo we shall continue the practice that we successfully adopted for the 2016 conference in Stockholm: papers will be circulated in advance in order to make the most of the time and opportunity for a wider discussion of those papers. Therefore, following acceptance of the abstracts, papers must be sent to the Working Group’s convenors by 23 June so that they can be made available for Working Group members to read before the conference. Recommended length of papers: 3,000-3,500 words; maximum 4000 words. At the conference, participants will speak briefly to their papers (max. 10 minutes), highlighting the key elements and arguments.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts is yet to be confirmed by the conference organisers. It is likely to be 15 January 2017. We shall duly advise the date when we are informed; otherwise, please consult the IFTR 2017 conference website.
