The Department of Theatre & Dance at the University at Buffalo, www.theatredance.buffalo.edu, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance Studies. We seek a dance scholar who will maintain a robust research agenda and establish themselves as a leader and innovator in the field. This individual will significantly contribute teaching expertise to our existing graduate programs, undergraduate Dance programs, and will actively participate in ongoing curricular development, including the design and implementation of a new MFA Dance program.
Ph.D. in Dance Studies, Performance Studies, or related field; and college teaching experience. Candidates with an MFA degree will be considered if background is well matched to the responsibilities of the position.
Specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on the integration of theory and practice; embodied inquiry; and/or social, cultural and/or global perspectives. Our new colleague will teach a regular course load (4 per year), including history and theory, with opportunities to develop courses in the candidate's area of specialization. Individuals with additional expertise in teaching studio courses are highly encouraged to apply. All Dance faculty mentor student research and creative activities; contribute to departmental dance concerts as director or choreographer; and provide service to the department or university as appropriate.
