Call for Writing: Theatre/Performance and Health

11 November, 2014

Call for academic writing on:

Drs Katharine Low (Royal Central School, London) and Veronica Baxter (University of Cape Town) are calling for brief research snapshots or viewpoints (700-1500 words) on theatre and/ or performance, to augment writing in a forthcoming book (Bloomsbury Methuen) entitled APPLIED THEATRE: PERFORMING HEALTH AND WELLBEING. The book derives impetus from the World Health Organisation’s definition of health and the Beyond 2015 Millennium Development Goals. Existing writing engages with theatre and performance initiatives from many parts of the world, but we would particularly welcome writing from South America, Africa and Asia, on the following topics:

  • Cancers and women;
  • Ebola,
  • Tuberculosis or Malaria.
  • Women and girls’ health, but not HIV and AIDS or violence,
  • Digital performance and health intersections, e.g. mobile technology and health.
  • Smoking, alcohol, substance abuse
  • Environmental health; climate change

Interested authors should send a 300-500 word abstract to and by 20th November 2014. If selected, final copy would be due January 2015.

All the best,
