Junior Professorship in Film Studies Goethe Universität Frankfurt

The faculty of Modern Languages and Literature at the Goethe Universität Frankfurt (Germany), department of theater, film and media, offers the following position to be filled at the earliest convenience:

Junior Professorship (W1) „Film Culture: Archiving, Programming, Presentation"
(six years, non-tenure track)

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in film studies and a proven track record of excellence in research and teaching. S/he will have a specialization in film history and any or several of the following additional areas: moving image preservation(including in particular issues of digitization and digital presentation), audiovisual heritage, film festivals and programming, film education.
The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester in the film studies Master programs at Goethe Universität, in particular in the newly established master „Film Culture: Archiving, Programming, Presentation", which is offered by Goethe Universität in close collaboration with Deutsches Filminstitut.

The successful candidate will be asked to develop and participate in collaborative research projects covering various aspects of contemporary film culture, including questions of digitization, long term preservation and circulation of and public access to moving images.

The successful candidate will also be asked to participate in the activities of the Forschungszentrum für historische Geisteswissenschaft, an interdisciplinary research center at Goethe-Universität (www.fzhg.org/), particularly in the center's working group on digital humanities.

International candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. The language of teaching is German or English. Administrative work requires a working knowledge of German. Successful international candidates will be offered access to intensive German language courses if required.

The designated salary for the position is based on "W1" on the German university scale.
